PSOE Expels Almussafes Mayor Toni González Amid Sexual Harassment Controversy

Toni González, the mayor of Almussafes in Valencia, has been expelled from the PSOE party due to public remarks he made against women who reported him for sexual harassment. According to party sources, his statements constitute a re-victimization of the accusers. González had previously been suspended from party membership in December after several allegations of sexual and labor harassment came to light, yet he continued to serve as mayor and retained his seat in the socialist group. The decision for expulsion was announced by the PSOE's federal Organization area, following additional comments made by González that were deemed inappropriate. On February 25, the Ethics and Guarantees Committee of the PSPV-PSOE opened an inquiry against him, addressing veiled threats he made against party Secretary General and Minister of Science Diana Morant and disparagement toward the women accusing him. Moreover, the committee noted concerns about González's disloyalty to the socialist project as he has acknowledged discussions with other political parties to propose an alternative governance in the municipality, further complicating his position. In another political development, Guardiola faced a setback in Extremadura where he failed to secure enough support for his investiture. Achieving only 29 votes from his parliamentary group, he fell short of the 33 votes required to pass the first investiture vote. The 11 deputies from VOX voted against him, marking a significant political defeat. Related Sources: • Source 1 • Source 2
