PSOE Faces Electoral Challenges Amid Scandal, Yet Remains Leading Party

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) is experiencing significant electoral fatigue, following a recent UCO report that links key member Santos Cerdán to the Koldo scandal, which has resulted in his imprisonment. This controversy has evidently taken a toll on the PSOE’s credibility and popularity, reflected in a seven-point drop in their voting estimation over the last month. According to the latest report published this Friday, the PSOE's support has plummeted from 34.3% in the June barometer to just 27%, marking their lowest estimate in over two years. Despite this decline, the PSOE retains its position as the leading political force in Spain, currently holding a slight edge over the Popular Party (PP), which has also seen a decrease in support, falling from 27.3% to 26.5%. This suggests that while the PSOE is suffering from internal issues, the PP has failed to capitalize on their vulnerability. In contrast, the far-right party Vox has shattered previous records, now reaching an impressive 18.9% in voting estimations—significantly higher than the 15.2% achieved in the April CIS, marking its best result to date. This surge reflects an increasing support base for Vox as they position themselves as a strong alternative to the primary political parties in Spain. Other political parties are also witnessing shifts in support. Sumar has gained traction, stepping up by eight-tenths to 7.8%, while Podemos has seen a two-point increase, bringing its support to 4.4%. On the other hand, the party Se Acabó la Fiesta led by Alvise Pérez remains steady at 1.7%, consistent with recent public studies. In conclusion, while the PSOE grapples with electoral challenges and a scandal that threatens its standing, it continues to lead the political landscape in Spain by a narrow margin. The PP's inability to capitalize on PSOE's misfortunes, combined with Vox's rising popularity, indicates a shifting dynamic in Spanish politics as parties navigate these turbulent waters.
