PSOE Remains Dominant in Latest CIS Poll Despite Slight Decline
According to the March barometer released by the Sociological Research Center (CIS), the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) would still be the most voted party if general elections were held today. Although the socialists experienced a minor dip of 0.8 points, falling to 31.8% of the votes, they maintain a significant lead over the People's Party (PP), which trails by more than eight points. The PP, led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, shows some improvement, rising to 23.3%, marking its best performance since last September.
In contrast, the far-right party Vox has seen a dramatic decline, losing two points and settling at 16.6%, which is its lowest estimate in the CIS since June 2025. This downturn follows Vox's disappointing results in the recent elections in Castilla y León and its controversial support for U.S. and Israeli military actions against Iran.
Among leftist parties, the news isn't much better. Sumar, the political alliance attempting to consolidate left-wing votes, barely rises by one-tenth to 7.1%, remaining two points below its results from the same month last year. Podemos, another key leftist party, suffers a larger setback, dropping one full percentage point to 2.9%, its worst projection since May 2024.
Alvise Pérez’s party, Se Acabó la Fiesta, also faces challenges, losing three-tenths, leaving it at 2.1%.
The nationalists and independence parties show mixed fortunes: ERC slips slightly by one-tenth to 2.4%, while Junts loses half of its support, now at 0.6%. Bildu manages to gain one-tenth, reaching 1.1%, while the BNG experiences a notable increase, doubling its support to 1.7%. On the other hand, the PNV faces a slight decrease of three-tenths, settling at 0.5%.
Overall, while the PSOE retains its position as the favorite in Spanish politics, the shifting dynamics indicate a potential reshuffling of support among various political factions as the country approaches future elections.
