PSOE's Santos Cerdán Under Scrutiny Amid Allegations of Illegal Commissions
On Thursday morning, Santos Cerdán, the Secretary of Organization for the PSOE, dedicated a substantial portion of his time in Congress to examining a report from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard. The report implicates him in the collection of illegal commissions, amounting to at least 620,000 euros, alongside former minister José Luis Ábalos and advisor Koldo García. This investigation coincided with a plenary session where the Lower House deliberated on a crucial law relating to the expansion of judicial and tax careers.
During the session, when questioned about the allegations, Cerdán firmly denied any wrongdoing. He expressed his inability to recall a supposed conversation involving Ábalos and García regarding the commission claims. Cerdán initially claimed ignorance about the report's content but indicated that he would schedule a press conference at the PSOE headquarters on Ferraz Street to clarify his position, either later that day or the following day.
As the session progressed, Cerdán was spotted at his seat perusing the document, seated next to his close aide, Juan Francisco Serrano. The unfolding situation not only casts a shadow on Cerdán’s political career but also poses serious questions about integrity within the PSOE as it grapples with the implications of the ongoing investigation.
