Putin Open to Meeting Zelenskyy Amid Continued Aggression

In recent statements, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed readiness to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but only during the final phase of negotiations. Putin emphasized that this meeting should not be a mere exercise in discussion but a step toward concluding hostilities.

Despite this apparent willingness, Putin's comments remain notably tense and unyielding, casting doubt on prospects for a peaceful resolution. He reiterated unfounded assertions that Zelenskyy is not the legitimate president of Ukraine, a claim frequently used to undermine Ukraine's sovereignty.

When questioned by the Associated Press about Russia’s condemnation of Israeli strikes on Iran amid ongoing civilian casualties in Ukraine, Putin insisted that Russian strikes are targeted at military production sites, despite recent attacks on civilian buildings that resulted in fatalities.

Furthermore, he warned Germany against supplying long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, cautioning that such actions could escalate into direct military conflict. He stated, "Our troops are advancing along the entire line of contact," urging Ukraine to accept Russia's terms for a peace agreement or face increasingly severe conditions.

On the topic of NATO, Putin claimed that NATO’s military enhancements do not pose a threat to Russia, asserting the country’s self-sufficiency regarding its security. He simultaneously showed support for former U.S. President Donald Trump, who has suggested that the conflict would not have begun had he remained in office. Trump previously promised to halt the Russian invasion within a day of assuming the presidency, a promise that remains unfulfilled 149 days later while Russia's aggression continues.

As Ukraine marks 100 days since it accepted a ceasefire proposed by the U.S., which Russia has disregarded, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha pointed out the disheartening progress towards peace. The upcoming NATO summit in The Hague may focus on ongoing support for Ukraine, but with the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, particularly concerning Israel and Iran, future developments remain uncertain.

As the situation evolves, this narrative will continue to unfold, and further updates will follow.
