Putin Set to Discuss Ukraine War with US Envoy Steve Witkoff

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet with US envoy Steve Witkoff this Friday, as reported by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. This meeting aims to address Russia's key concerns regarding the ongoing Ukraine war, which has lasted over three years. Peskov emphasized that this encounter will provide an opportunity for Russia to present its position and primary worries, which Witkoff will later relay to President Donald Trump.

During the meeting, Witkoff, who serves as Trump's special representative, is expected not only to listen to Putin's concerns but also to discuss various facets of a potential settlement regarding the conflict in Ukraine. However, Peskov has made it clear that no significant progress is anticipated to arise from this round of discussions.

"No advancements should be expected. There is a process of normalization of relations and a search for bases to initiate a peace process around Ukraine," stated Peskov.

This upcoming visit follows an agreement between the US and Ukraine in Yeda the previous month to propose a 30-day partial truce to Russia, which has yet to receive a response from the Kremlin. This meeting will mark Witkoff's third trip to Russia in the past two months, with previous visits on February 11 and March 13.

Peskov confirmed that Witkoff has arrived in St. Petersburg, where the meeting with Putin will take place. In addition to the discussion on the Ukraine conflict, nuclear matters are also on the agenda for talks this Saturday.

Importantly, President Trump has signaled the possibility of imposing new sanctions on Russia if a truce is not accepted by the end of the month, highlighting the pressing nature of the discussions ahead.
