Ted Turner, the iconic co-founder of CNN and a pioneering figure in the world of journalism, has passed away at the age of 87. Born Robert Edward Turner III in 1938 in Ohio, he soon made his mark on the media landscape after relocating to Atlanta, Georgia. In 1970, Turner made an early foray into media by attempting to enter the radio industry. However, it was in 1980 when he truly redefined the media industry with the launch of CNN, the first television network in the United States completely dedicated to news and offering 24-hour coverage. Turner's bold promise upon CNN's launch, stating that 'Except for satellite problems we will only stop broadcasting at the end of the world,' encapsulated his ambitious vision. His audacity earned him the nickname 'The Mouth of the South', well-known for his frank and candid statements. His commitment to this vision was exemplified by the final video message he prepared to air, which featured a military band playing the Christian hymn 'Nearer My God to Thee' and was discovered posthumously in 2015.
