Russian Antiwar Activist Natalya Narskaya Released from Extradition Detention in Kazakhstan
Russian antiwar activist Natalya Narskaya has been released from an extradition detention center in Almaty, Kazakhstan, after spending exactly one year there. The Kazakh Bureau for Human Rights announced on July 23 that Narskaya, who fled Moscow in 2022, was arrested in Kazakhstan at Russia's request. Kazakh law allows individuals facing possible extradition to be held for a maximum of 12 months, and human rights defenders in Kazakhstan have played a crucial role in preventing her extradition to Russia. Narskaya is wanted in Russia for publicly criticizing Russia's invasion of Ukraine. During her time in custody, she reportedly developed psychological problems.
