Russian Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Julia Navalnaya, Kremlin Critic's Widow
A Russian court has issued an arrest warrant for opposition politician Julia Navalnaya, the widow of Kremlin critic Alexey Navalny who died in prison earlier this year. The court granted the prosecutors' request for pretrial detention on suspicion of involvement in an extremist organization. The court spokesman in Moscow confirmed the news to the Interfax news agency, stating that the pretrial detention is set for two months and will be in effect after Navalnaya's extradition to Russia. Navalnaya, who has been put on a wanted list, has been living abroad due to the dangers she faces in Russia. She holds President Vladimir Putin responsible for her husband's death and has expressed her commitment to continuing Navalny's fight for democracy in Russia. Navalny himself has been sentenced to a long prison term by Russian courts on extremism charges. Navalnaya has not disclosed her plans for returning to Russia.
