Salvador Sobral Supports Spain's Eurovision Withdrawal Amid Controversy

Portuguese singer Salvador Sobral, known for his candid expressions, has voiced support for Spain's decision to withdraw from the Eurovision festival should Israel participate. This announcement came alongside a photo of Melody, Spain's latest representative at Eurovision. The Spanish broadcaster RTVE recently approved the withdrawal with a vote count of ten in favor, four against, and one abstention. RTVE President José Pablo López mentioned that the governing body discussed the proposal earlier this week, leading to the expected approval. With this decision, Spain joins the ranks of four other countries—The Netherlands, Slovenia, Iceland, and Ireland—that have confirmed their withdrawal from Eurovision if Israel participates in the upcoming edition in 2026. Despite the decision regarding Eurovision, the Benidorm Fest is set to carry on as planned. TVE confirmed that the RTVE Board of Directors' decision will not affect the Benidorm Fest, a festival that has carved out its own identity and has been essential in selecting Spain's Eurovision entries over the past four years. The fifth edition of the Benidorm Fest is scheduled for next year, maintaining its significance in the Spanish music scene. Related Sources: • Source 1 • Source 2
