Santos Cerdán Resigns from PSOE Amid Allegations, Vows to Clear Name
Santos Cerdán announced on Thursday that he is resigning from all his positions within the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), including the role of organizational secretary, and stepping down as a deputy in Congress. This decision comes after a report from the UCO implicated him in the alleged management of payments or commissions from various companies to the Koldo network in exchange for public works contracts.
In his statement, Cerdán expressed that serving as organizational secretary has been the greatest privilege of his life. He highlighted his contributions toward aiding the establishment of a progressive government that has brought about significant growth in employment and rights in Spain.
With his resignation, Cerdán intends to focus solely on his legal defense and provide all necessary explanations to demonstrate his innocence and clarify that he has never engaged in any illegal activities or acted as an accomplice in such matters. He expressed his commitment to cooperating fully with the justice system, indicating that he plans to appear before the Supreme Court to address all questions directed at him related to his forthcoming voluntary statement on June 25.
Cerdán remains hopeful that he can dispel any doubts regarding his integrity. 'These are complicated times, but the PSOE is more necessary than ever,' he stated, emphasizing his dedication to doing what is best for both his party and his country. He concluded his message with a reaffirmation of his innocence and trust that the truth will emerge after his statement.
