Search Underway for Missing K2 Airways Cargo Plane in Arabian Sea
On Tuesday evening, communication was lost with a Boeing 737 cargo plane from the private Pakistani company K2 Airways. The aircraft had departed from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, and was en route to Karachi, Pakistan when it reported problems around 9:20 PM local time (6:20 PM in Italy). Communications were interrupted when the plane was approximately 300 kilometers west of Karachi.
The aviation authority in Pakistan confirmed that there were five crew members on board the aircraft at the time of the incident. It is currently believed that the plane has crashed into the Arabian Sea.
Data from the specialized tracking site Flightradar24 indicated that after crossing the Gulf of Oman, the aircraft lost about 1,500 meters of altitude in just one minute before stabilizing. Preliminary analysis of the data suggests that the plane may have crashed in a nearly vertical trajectory, descending from an altitude of about 11,000 meters at speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour.
In response to this urgent situation, Pakistan has initiated extensive search efforts. A military ship, two aircraft, and the collaboration of a commercial vessel are currently engaged in the search operation in the Arabian Sea, hoping to locate wreckage and any possible survivors.
The loss of communication with the aircraft as well as the reported altitude loss raises serious concerns regarding the safety of the flight and the circumstances leading up to the incident. As search efforts continue, authorities are focusing on investigating the potential causes of the crash and the fate of the five crew members on board.
Eyewitness accounts and satellite data will be crucial in piecing together the final moments of the flight as authorities strive to bring answers to families and colleagues of those on board.
