Severe Rainfall Warnings Issued in Valencia: Residents Brace for Impact
The State Agency of Meteorology has escalated the alert status in Valencia, declaring a red warning for extreme rainfall risks along the northern and southern coasts of the province. This critical advisory is effective from 9 PM Wednesday until noon on Thursday, predicting rain accumulations that could reach 40 liters per square meter in just one hour and an alarming 180 liters over a 12-hour period.
According to the AEMET's warning, there is a 40 to 70 percent probability of these extreme conditions arising, particularly in coastal areas where significant accumulations are expected within a window of four to five hours.
The remainder of the Valencian Community remains under a yellow warning, indicating a potential rainfall of up to 20 liters in one hour and 60 liters over 12 hours—except for the southern coast and inland Alicante, which are experiencing slightly different conditions. Meanwhile, the northern region of Castellón is under an orange level warning owing to predictions of rainfall that could result in 60 liters in an hour and 150 liters over a span of 12 hours, valid until midnight.
In addition to the rainfall concerns, citizens affected by the flooding caused by the DANA event on October 29 are currently receiving alerts through EsAlert, notifying them of restrictions on private vehicle traffic in impacted municipalities. This message, sent by the Emergency Coordination Center of the Generalitat at 5:01 PM Wednesday, was dispatched to mobile phones located specifically in areas that experienced severe flooding.
As the Valencian community prepares for potentially hazardous weather conditions, residents are urged to stay informed and adhere to any government advisories aimed at ensuring their safety.
