Seville Court Accepts PSOE's Complaint on Alleged Embezzlement in Health Contracts

A court in Seville has agreed to examine a complaint lodged by the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) concerning alleged embezzlement and misconduct linked to the Health Department of the Junta of AndalucĂa in relation to contracts with the private healthcare sector. This revelation comes from Juan Espadas, the secretary general of the Andalusian socialists, who shared the news on his social media account on X.

Espadas highlighted that this development follows an in-depth investigation carried out by the Socialist Group, which faced numerous challenges posed by the government of Juanma Moreno. The investigation, which spanned over a year and a half, led to the court's decision to look into the management of nearly 300 million euros that were allocated without proper procedures or competitive bidding, allegedly circumventing established regulations.

The complaint, submitted last June, scrutinizes the method by which these contracts were awarded. According to the PSOE, the Junta continued to apply an exceptional procedure sanctioned during the COVID pandemic long after it was supposed to have ended; in fact, the PSOE claims this practice continued until 2023, two years after the regulation was repealed in 2021. This oversight transforms the situation into a significant concern regarding fiscal responsibility in public health expenditure.

Cadena SER reported that the 13th Instruction Court of Seville will take on the investigation. Espadas expressed his expectations on X, urging the Popular Party (PP), which has often positioned itself as a champion of transparent governance, to clarify its actions during this judicial inquiry. He emphasized the necessity for accountability regarding the substantial public funds that allegedly flowed into the private sector without adequate oversight or lawful procedure.

The acceptance of the PSOE's complaint is set against a backdrop of ongoing political discourse and accusations regarding legal fraud, particularly concerning the division of contracts within the Andalusian public healthcare system. As the investigation unfolds, the pressure mounts on the PP to respond to these serious allegations of mismanagement and corruption in the public health domain.
