Seville Police Intensify Operations Against Drug Trafficking Following Recent Violent Incident
The National Police have ramped up their efforts this Friday in the neighborhood known as the Three Thousand Homes in Seville. This marks the second phase of Operation Vulcano, focused on combatting drug trafficking in the area. The operation comes in the wake of a recent alarming shooting incident, where combat weapons were fired, raising concerns among local residents.
According to sources close to the investigation, this large-scale police operation in the Murillo and Martínez Montañés areas continues previous efforts that have seen a dozen arrests, 16 searches, and the seizure of both weapons and narcotic substances this week in the same vicinity of Seville's capital.
The renewed police presence is a continuation of significant operations launched in Polígono Sur, and it also includes interventions in other neighborhoods such as Palmete and Carmona. These developments were confirmed following a meeting on Thursday afternoon between Seville's mayor, José Luis Sanz, government subdelegate Francisco Toscano, and the commissioner for Polígono Sur, Jaime Bretón.
During this meeting, institutional representatives reiterated their commitment to ensuring security, fostering community relations, and enhancing public services in the Three Thousand Homes neighborhood. The recent shooting incident, fortunately, resulted in no injuries but reportedly involved automatic or semiautomatic firearms. Authorities believe the violence may be linked to disputes among various clans actively engaged in drug trafficking within the area.
With escalating tensions and violence, the police's ongoing operations underscore the urgent need to address the pervasive drug issues affecting local neighborhoods. The strategic deployment of law enforcement aims to not only curb drug-related crimes but also to restore safety and public trust among the residents of Seville.
