Six Teenagers Arrested in Connection with Stabbing Murder of Gianluca Ibarra Silvera in Milan
Police have arrested six teenagers accused of being involved in the murder of Gianluca Ibarra Silvera, a 22-year-old who was stabbed to death on the evening of May 26 at the Milan Certosa railway station in the northwestern part of the city. Authorities have stated that the six arrested, aged between 18 and 22, include one Dominican and five Peruvians. Earlier in June, two more teenagers were detained in connection with Silvera's murder, believed to be materially responsible for the stabbing, and are now in custody. This brings the total number of arrests to eight, with around 20 individuals currently under investigation.
Ibarra was born in Milan to an Ecuadorian family. He was attacked by a group of about ten individuals, which police reported belonged to a criminal gang known as the Latin Kings. Allegedly, they surrounded Silvera, his brother, and a friend, attacking them with stones, bottles, and knives as they tried to escape along the tracks. During the frantic attempt to flee, Silvera fell to the ground and was reached by the group, who then repeatedly stabbed him.
The police have undertaken several operations across the provinces of Milan and Monza to apprehend those involved, indicating a continued and serious commitment to addressing gang violence in the area. Local community leaders have expressed their concern over the rising violence while calling for enhanced measures to combat gang activity and ensure public safety.
The tragic death of Gianluca Ibarra Silvera serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by urban communities in Milan and underscores the urgent need for effective interventions to tackle gang-related crime and violence.
