Spain Braces for a Sweeping Warm Spell as Anticyclone Approaches
As the Easter holiday fades into memory, Spain prepares to welcome the warmth of early summer. With May just around the corner, the country is about to experience significant climatic changes as the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) announces the arrival of the Azores anticyclone.
This meteorological phenomenon is expected to blanket almost the entire national territory by Wednesday, heralding a noticeable increase in temperatures across various regions. Forecasts indicate that some areas could see temperature spikes of up to 8ºC, with places in Andalusia, Extremadura, and Murcia likely to exceed 25 degrees Celsius.
The warming trend is set to intensify as Thursday approaches, with certain regions in the southern peninsula nearing 30 degrees Celsius. This upward trajectory in temperatures will be particularly felt in the same areas that already experienced an increase the day prior. Following suit, Friday will promise yet another pre-summer day with readings surpassing 25ºC in multiple locations, especially in the south, while the northern parts of the country may remain relatively cooler.
In addition to the rising daytime temperatures, minimum temperatures will also ascend, especially starting Thursday. Eltiempoes has reported that nighttime lows could stay above 15 degrees in Andalusia and the Mediterranean coast, contributing to a warmer overall environment as the week progresses.
As Spain steps into this upcoming warm spell, citizens and travelers alike should prepare for a weekend characterized by a similar pattern—sunny and warm in the south, while the northern regions may enjoy slightly cooler temperatures. With the season shifting, this change offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities and embrace the sun as summer approaches.
