Spain to Evacuate Citizens from Lebanon Amid Ongoing Crisis
Defense Minister Margarita Robles has confirmed that Spain will send two Air Force planes to Beirut this Thursday as part of the operation to evacuate Spanish citizens from Lebanon. In an interview on Espejo Público, aired on Antena 3, Robles detailed that the government is preparing a comprehensive evacuation plan, addressing concerns for approximately 350 Spaniards who have expressed their intent to return home.
Robles emphasized Spain's commitment to its citizens abroad, stating, "The Spanish Government has never left any Spanish citizen behind. We did it in Afghanistan, we have done it in Niger, we have done it in Sudan, and we will do it in Lebanon." This statement underscores a longstanding policy of protecting and assisting Spanish citizens in times of crisis.
As tensions continue to rise in Lebanon, Robles reassured that preparation for the evacuation is thorough. "Everyone is aware of the situation regarding airspaces, and our Spanish planes are ready, with trained crews on standby," she explained.
