Spanish Congress Postpones Decision on Junts' No Confidence Proposal

The Congress Board of Deputies, where the PSOE and Sumar parties hold a majority, has postponed its decision regarding the admission for processing of a non-legislative proposal put forth by Junts. This proposal urges Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to submit to a vote of no confidence in Parliament. The postponement, which occurred on Tuesday, was attributed to the nature of the matter, as it could generate significant legal precedents or doctrine. Consequently, the Board has opted for a more thorough examination, which will be conducted in the next session period set to commence in February of next year.

Should the proposal gain the Board's approval in a forthcoming meeting, it would be scheduled for debate later that month or possibly in March, contingent upon the allocation of time each parliamentary group has for discussing initiatives in Congress.

Legal services of Congress determined on Monday that the Board possesses various options regarding the initiative: they could either process it as presented, include a clarification to specify that it would hold no legal effects, ask Junts to reformulate the proposal to denote the absence of legal consequences, or simply reject it outright. The scrutiny and eventual decision from the Board will be closely watched, as it has implications for both Junts' political maneuvering and the broader parliamentary landscape in Spain.
