Spanish Singer Diego El Cigala Sentenced for Domestic Abuse

The Criminal Court number 3 of Jerez de la Frontera in Cádiz has sentenced renowned singer Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar, popularly known as Diego El Cigala, to a total of two years and one month in prison for domestic abuse against his ex-wife. This ruling, reported by the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia, chronicles a series of violent incidents involving the singer and his former partner.

The sentence, which remains open for appeal at the Provincial Court of Cádiz, includes multiple offenses. El Cigala has been convicted for a first instance of abuse stemming from an assault that took place in a hotel in Jerez, for which he received a six-month prison sentence. Additionally, the court imposed a two-year restriction prohibiting him from communicating with or approaching his ex-wife within 200 meters.

Furthermore, he faced a second conviction for another abusive incident that occurred in a hotel in Palafrugell, Girona. This led to an eight-month prison sentence accompanied by a similar two-year ban on contact.

The court has also found El Cigala guilty of aggravated abuse resulting from an assault at their shared residence in Jerez, penalizing him with an eleven-month prison term and reinforcing the communication and approach restrictions.

As the singer navigates this legal challenge, the case has drawn significant media attention, raising questions about the prevalence of domestic violence in the entertainment industry and the societal response to such acts. The implications of these judicial decisions continue to resonate, reflecting broader concerns related to domestic abuse and the legal protections available to victims.
