The Cure Returns: Announcing Their Long-Awaited Album 'Songs Of A Lost World'
After a 16-year hiatus since their last album "413 Dream," The Cure is set to release their highly anticipated new work titled "Songs Of A Lost World" on November 1. The announcement brings a wave of excitement among fans who have been eagerly awaiting new music from the iconic band.
The album will be preceded by the single "Alone," which was released on Thursday across various music platforms. This track has already been performed at multiple concerts during their extensive tour named "Shows Of A Lost World," which spanned 33 countries and showcased their music to more than 13 million people over 90 dates.
"Alone" has a runtime of six minutes and 49 seconds, with Robert Smith's haunting vocals entering about three minutes into the song. Smith poignantly states, "This is the end of every song we sing," in a pure expression of The Cure's unique sound.
In a statement from their record label, Smith expressed that the song was pivotal in shaping the entire album's direction. He reveals that finding the perfect opening phrase was a struggle until he was reminded of the poem "Dregs" by the British poet Ernest Dowson, known for his work in the Decadent movement. This moment of inspiration solidified the song's role as the album opener.
"Songs Of A Lost World" will be available in various formats, including vinyl, cassette, CD, and digital platforms. The album was fully written and arranged by Robert Smith, who also took on production duties alongside renowned Australian producer Paul Corkett, known for his work with other artists like Nick Cave and Björk.
The creative lineup for the recording includes long-time members Simon Gallup on bass, Jason Cooper on drums, Roger O’Donnell on keyboards, and Reeves Gabrels on guitar. The album's cover features a 1975 sculpture by the late Slovenian artist Janez Pirnat, designed by Smith in collaboration with Andy Vella, a familiar partner in their artistic endeavors.
As anticipation builds for the album's official release, fans are encouraged to embrace the nostalgia as well as the evolution of The Cure's sound. The unique blend of Smith's reflective songwriting and the evocative sound they are known for is sure to resonate deeply, marking a new chapter in The Cure's illustrious musical journey.
