Toni Comín Denies Allegations of Harassment Amid Investigation

Toni Comín, the former councilor of the Generalitat and newly elected MEP of Junts, firmly denied allegations of harassment made against him by a former advisor. In a statement following a report by La Vanguardia, Comín dismissed the claims as unfounded, stating that he has not engaged in any acts of workplace psychological or sexual harassment.

The allegations arise from a complaint submitted to the European Parliament’s Advisory Committee, which investigates harassment cases. The former advisor, who served for seven years with the Junts group in Brussels, detailed incidents of inappropriate behavior, including unwelcome advances, inappropriate inquiries about his personal life, and proposals for sexual encounters. Comín contended that the events referenced in the complaint were taken out of context and stemmed from a friendly rapport developed during their time working together.

"Contrary to the claims made, I have never infringed upon the complainant's privacy," Comín asserted, denying any allegations of physical violence, while also emphasizing that the complainant was not his assistant and he had no formal employment relationship with him.

The former advisor took his concerns directly to Carles Puigdemont, the president of Junts, who reportedly expressed his support. Comín expressed a belief that this complaint may be motivated by homophobia, suggesting that the timing could be indicative of an attack on his integrity related to his sexual orientation. He declared his intention to pursue all necessary actions to clear his name.

Additionally, Comín alluded to another legal challenge presented by the Mallorcan rapper Josep Miquel Arenas, known as Valtònyc, highlighting a potential pattern of accusations coinciding with his political objectives.

As the investigation unfolds, the political and social implications of these accusations will be closely monitored by constituents and media alike, raising questions about the challenges faced by political figures regarding personal conduct and allegations of misconduct.
