Tragedy in Guadahortuna: Fatal Knifing Linked to Gender Violence Sparks Mourning

In a distressing incident in Guadahortuna, Granada, the death of a man following a knife attack has resulted in the detention of three individuals. This tragic event unfolded during a confrontation between two families, prompted by allegations of gender violence, revealed the Civil Guard.

The altercation transpired around noon on Monday as the victim, a man in his 50s, was returning to the town with his daughter, her mother, and several officers from the Civil Guard. This returning journey came after a court hearing concerning gender violence, with the man's daughter as the victim. It was reported that the father had been advocating for his daughter to report the ongoing abuse she was experiencing, a situation that placed her in the Viogén system, a program designed to protect victims of gender violence.

Upon their arrival in Guadahortuna, the young woman requested to be deposited at her parents' residence. However, upon reaching the house, a physical confrontation erupted among several individuals stemming from the two families. The Civil Guard's efforts were primarily focused on safeguarding the woman, leaving one officer to secure her in the vehicle while another attempted to defuse the escalating brawl.

The situation escalated when those accused in the gender violence case made their exit, prompting officers to assist the wounded and relay details of the assailants' vehicle. Subsequently, the Civil Guard immediately launched an operation to locate the fleeing suspects, successfully intercepting them at a service area along the A92 highway. All three suspects were detained, and investigators are now evaluating the involvement and responsibility of each individual regarding the homicide of the deceased.

The local council, comprised of fewer than 2,000 residents, will also pause the festivities planned for Guadahortuna Day that were set for this upcoming weekend.
