Tragedy Strikes as Superyacht Sinks Near Palermo: Bodies Recovered and Search for Missing Intensifies
In a tragic incident off the coast of Porticiello near Palermo, two bodies were found Wednesday inside the wreckage of the superyacht Bayesian, which sank on Monday morning due to a tornado. The recovery operation, conducted by divers, has confirmed that the bodies belong to two men who were aboard the doomed vessel. These bodies have been slowly brought to the surface after initial pauses at depths of 20 meters and 56 meters.
Authorities are still working to identify the deceased, while the search continues for six passengers who remain missing, including notable figures like British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and Jonathan Bloomer, the Chairman of Morgan Stanley International. Also unaccounted for are Bloomer's wife, Anne Elizabeth, their daughter Judith, Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah, Lynch's lawyer Chris Morvillo, and Morvillo's wife Nada.
The Bayesian was carrying a total of 22 passengers when it sank; 15 individuals were rescued by coast guards, while seven were reported missing. One body was recovered on the same day as the incident, identified as Ricardo Thomas, the yacht's chef.
The disaster unfolded rapidly as a tornado hit the area, prompting chaos and desperation among those on board.
