Tragic Attack at Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Valencia Leaves One Dead and Several Injured

A tragic incident unfolded at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit of the Mountain in Gilet, Valencia, where a religious figure has died and three others have sustained injuries following a violent attack. The Civil Guard is currently on the hunt for the perpetrator, who remains at large.

Sources from the Archdiocese of Valencia have confirmed to EFE that the attack occurred early in the morning, sparking a swift response from emergency services. The first reports indicated an alert was received by the Emergency Information and Coordination Center at 10 AM. A 76-year-old man was reported to have suffered cranioencephalic trauma and was subsequently transported to a Clinical Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In addition to the deceased, three men aged 57, 66, and 95 were treated for various contusions and trauma, indicating the severity of the assault inflicted upon the members of the religious congregation.

Brother Joaquín Zureba Ribó, the Provincial Minister, expressed deep sorrow over the incident, stating, 'With deep surprise and pain, we received this morning the news that a disturbed person entered the convent of the Holy Spirit of the Mountain and began attacking the brothers who were in their room.' He noted that except for two brothers—Antonio Ivars Solbes, who was in the garden, and Federico Allara Aragó, who was in the chapel conducting Mass—all others present were violently assaulted.

Particular concern has been raised for Brother Juan Antonio Llorente Espín, who appears to be the most severely injured, with reports indicating that his condition is critical.

The Archdiocese condemned the aggressive act without reservation, expressing solidarity with the injured and an appeal for healing. 'We join in the suffering of our brothers with injuries to the body and pain in the soul for what they have experienced, which undoubtedly leaves a deep mark on people. We also pray for the aggressor to become aware of the harm and to rectify behavior that is not at all characteristic of human condition,' Brother Zureba Ribó concluded.

As investigations proceed, the Civil Guard is actively searching for the assailant, whose motives remain unclear. The community is left to grapple with the aftermath of this horrific event, reflecting on the impact such violence leaves on both individuals and institutions.
