Tragic Avalanche Strikes Castore Mountain as Rescuers Battle Bad Weather
A group of eight climbers was struck by an avalanche on the Castore mountain in the Monte Rosa massif on Monday, according to reports. While some of the mountaineers sustained injuries, details regarding their conditions remain scarce.
The Alpine Rescue Service faced significant challenges in their rescue efforts, as bad weather conditions hindered the use of helicopters. As a result, rescuers were compelled to make the arduous journey to the affected climbers on foot.
In a separate incident over the weekend, four mountaineers—two Italians and two South Koreans—were reported missing on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. Rescue teams have been unable to search for them due to the continuing adverse weather conditions that have plagued the region.
These incidents underscore the inherent dangers of alpine climbing, particularly in unpredictable weather, where avalanches and difficult rescue operations can quickly escalate situations into life-threatening emergencies.
