Tragic Explosion at Eni Fuel Depot Near Florence Leaves One Dead and Seven Injured
A devastating explosion occurred at an Eni fuel depot in Calenzano, near Florence, resulting in one fatality and seven individuals sustaining injuries, with two in serious condition. Tuscany Governor Eugenio Giani provided updates regarding the ongoing situation on Monday. According to Giani, the conditions of the injured, who were taken to several hospitals, are rapidly changing. This includes two individuals classified with green codes at Careggi Hospital, one red code patient with burns, and another yellow code patient suffering from head trauma. Additionally, there is one red code patient receiving treatment at the Major Burns Center in Pisa, along with two yellow code patients at the Prato hospital. The explosion, which Eni confirmed took place at the fuel storage site, prompted an immediate response from the Fire Brigade, who worked diligently to control the fire which was contained within the loading shelter area and did not impact the fuel tanks directly. The company stated that they are currently investigating the causes and consequences of the blast. In light of the incident, the Florence prefecture has advised residents within a five-kilometer radius to keep their windows shut as a precautionary measure.
