Tragic Incident at Lleida-Pirineos Station Claims Life of Train Roofer

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night at the Lleida-Pirineos train station when a person died after climbing onto the roof of a high-speed train car. According to spokespeople from the public company Adif, the events unfolded around 8:20 PM after it was observed that several individuals had illegally accessed restricted areas of the station.

Witnesses reported that two individuals managed to gain access to the top of one of the high-speed train cars for reasons that remain unclear. Local authorities, including the Mossos d'Esquadra and Civil Protection, confirmed that one individual was electrically shocked after touching the overhead power line, resulting in his immediate death.

Emergency medical services were called to the scene but were unable to save the victim, who was burned to death instantaneously upon contact with the high-voltage line. The second individual, who was on the roof alongside the deceased, sustained serious injuries and has been rushed to the Arnau de Vilanova hospital in Lleida for urgent medical attention.

The Mossos d'Esquadra are conducting an investigation into the incident, gathering details to understand how the individuals accessed the train and the circumstances leading up to the tragedy. At the time of the accident, there were approximately 180 passengers onboard the train. In light of the incident, Adif has confirmed that high-speed train services between Madrid and Barcelona have been suspended indefinitely, though conventional train services at the Lleida station are still operational.

This heart-wrenching event underscores the dangers of trespassing in restricted railway areas, notably around high-speed trains that operate under high-voltage lines. Authorities are urging the public to adhere to safety regulations and remain vigilant about their surroundings when near train stations.
