A devastating wildfire that ignited this Monday in Paüls, Tarragona, has claimed the life of a forestry technician actively involved in the firefighting efforts, according to reports from Cadena SER. The victim, a member of the Active Forest Prevention Team (EPAF) from the Granollers park, tragically fell into a ravine at approximately 3:15 PM while engaged in efforts to extinguish the fire. Emergency responders promptly evacuated him via helicopter to the Tortosa Verge de la Cinta Hospital, where medical teams eventually confirmed his death, as reported by 20 minutos. The wildfire has wreaked havoc, scorching over 2,300 hectares in its course. Overall, this fire has been one of the most severe incidents of the year, consuming a total of 3,321 hectares of land in southern Tarragona, including 1,125 hectares that were part of the Natural Park dels Ports, according to data from the Agents Rurals. While the fire has since been stabilized, firefighting operations remain ongoing to ensure complete control over the situation.
