Tragic Roof Collapse at Construction Site Claims Lives and Injures Workers in Coaña

A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday in the municipality of Coaña when the roof of a livestock building under construction collapsed, leading to the deaths of three individuals and leaving three others injured, two of them seriously. According to reports from the Civil Guard, workers at the site alerted emergency services around 1:00 PM regarding the collapse, initially indicating that four or five people might be unaccounted for during the chaos that ensued.

Emergency response units swiftly activated and were on the scene, including several Civil Guard citizen security patrols from Asturias. Tragically, authorities confirmed the deaths of three workers shortly after their arrival. In addition to the fatalities, two individuals sustained serious injuries that required immediate medical attention, while a third sustained minor injuries.

Rescue efforts involved the transfer of the injured to local medical facilities, with two being transported to the Jarrio hospital and the third being airlifted by helicopter to the University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA). The severity of the situation necessitated the deployment of two mobile Intensive Care Units (ICUs), alongside a basic life support ambulance and additional medical teams for effective intervention.

Remarkably, there were three other individuals present at the construction site who fortunately escaped unharmed during this devastating event. The construction site was bustling with activity prior to the collapse, making the sudden nature of the incident all the more shocking for the local community.

The investigation into the causes of the roof collapse is ongoing, as authorities aim to gather more information about the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event. As of now, the local community is rallying to support the families of the deceased and the injured during this incredibly difficult time.
