Tragic Toll: Israeli Airstrikes Hit Schools in Gaza, Claiming Lives of Civilians
In a devastating turn of events, at least 15 Palestinian individuals have lost their lives following Israeli airstrikes on two schools in the northern Gaza Strip that were being utilized as shelters for displaced persons. The Israeli military has claimed that these school complexes were converted into command and control centers by Hamas, asserting that steps were taken to minimize civilian casualties.
Mahmoud Basal, a spokesperson for Palestinian civil protection, reported that alongside the fatalities—whose numbers may still rise—there are at least 30 individuals injured and an undetermined number of people trapped under the rubble.
These attacks mark the fifth and sixth instances of Israeli strikes on educational facilities within a matter of days. Just last Sunday, Israeli forces targeted two schools in Gaza City, the largest in the region, resulting in at least 25 fatalities. The preceding days have also seen similar tragedies, including bombings of the Hamama school on Saturday and the Dalal al-Mughrabi school on Thursday, each incident claiming the lives of numerous civilians.
Since the onset of the ongoing conflict, educational activities in Gaza have been brought to a halt, with a majority of schools repurposed as makeshift shelters for civilians forced from their homes amid widespread destruction. The situation on the ground remains dire as the innocent lives of children and their families continue to be caught in the crossfire of a protracted conflict.
