Trump Claims Putin Seeks Peace in Ukraine Conflict Amid New Negotiation Talks
In a recent press conference, US President Donald Trump asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin is eager to cease hostilities in the ongoing war in Ukraine. Trump expressed optimism about the upcoming peace negotiations, stating, "I think Putin wants to stop fighting. I see it. I think Putin wants to end this quickly," underscoring that both leaders are, in fact, seeking a resolution to the conflict. Trump noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also shares this desire for peace.
On Wednesday, Trump revealed that after a phone conversation with Putin, a commitment to commence negotiations aimed at concluding the armed conflict was established. "Both agreed on the necessity to stop the millions of deaths that are occurring due to the war between Russia and Ukraine," Trump highlighted.
In light of these developments, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez emphasized the importance of Ukraine and the European Union's active involvement in the discussions between the US and Russia. At an informal summit of European leaders, he remarked that achieving peace in Ukraine and ensuring security in Europe are intrinsically linked.
The Kremlin echoed this sentiment in a statement, affirming that both Presidents had concurred that a sustainable solution can be reached through peaceful negotiations. Following his conversation with Putin, Trump reached out to Zelensky, stating, "No one desires peace more than Ukraine. Together with the United States, we are defining the next steps to halt the Russian aggression and ensure a durable and reliable peace. As President Trump said, let's do it," emphasized the Ukrainian President.
As global leaders closely watch these developments, the prospect of negotiations raises hopes for a resolution to a conflict that has claimed countless lives and displaced millions. The need for a collaborative and engaged diplomatic effort has never been more critical in steering both nations towards peace.
