Ukraine Adapts to Modern Warfare with Focus on Drones
Kyiv, Ukraine has embraced a new form of warfare by shifting its focus to drones. The highest military leadership, known as the Stawka, has committed to the future production and utilization of drones in their recent meeting. This decision was influenced by various factors, including the popularity of specific drones among troops and the importance of long-range drones. President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted the significance of the decisions made during consultations with key figures such as Deputy Commander-in-Chief Vadim Sukharevsky, Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk. While Zelensky did not delve into specifics, he mentioned that time will reveal the impact of these decisions on the frontlines. The Ukrainian military had previously established drone units within the tank corps, infantry, and artillery. A considerable number of these drones are already being manufactured domestically in Ukraine, with long-range drones serving as the primary means for targeting deep within Russian territory. Recently, a kamikaze drone reportedly struck a gunpowder factory near Tambov, over 400 kilometers southeast of Moscow and near the Ukrainian border. The exact outcomes of the attack are yet to be determined. Meanwhile, heavy fighting persists near Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, with Russian forces attempting to breach Ukrainian defenses. Although Russian attacks have been successfully repelled at a cost, the information has not been independently verified. Additionally, the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa faced a rocket strike, resulting in casualties. A ballistic missile landed in the port area, claiming at least one life and injuring seven others, according to Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov. Despite the losses suffered in Ukraine, the Russian armed forces claim to have adequate personnel due to an influx of volunteers. Vice Chairman of the National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev highlighted the recruitment of 190,000 volunteers and conscripts this year alone, meeting the Kremlin's recruitment objectives. The daily recruitment rate hovers around 1,000 individuals, primarily composed of reservists. For more updates on the Ukraine War, follow our news blog.
