Ukrainian Drone Attack Destroys Ammunition Depot in Tver, Russia
A Ukrainian drone attack launched overnight has successfully destroyed an ammunition depot located in the western Russian region of Tver, according to a source from Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) who spoke to CNN on Wednesday.
The operation targeted a warehouse operated by the Russian defense ministry in Toropets, which was reportedly housing Iskander tactical missile systems, Tochka-U tactical missile systems, guided aerial bombs, and artillery ammunition.
Following the attack, significant fires broke out as a result of the debris from drones that were reportedly repelled by local air defenses. Reacting to the situation, regional governor Igor Rudenya ordered a partial evacuation of the vicinity during the early hours of Wednesday morning. This decision aimed to allow emergency responders to effectively manage the resulting blazes.
Videos that surfaced on social media, which were verified by CNN, displayed loud explosions and multiple structures within the depot complex engulfed in flames.
Governor Rudenya emphasized the need for evacuation in order to facilitate the work of emergency services, ensuring they could respond fully to control the fires, as noted in a post on the official Telegram channel of the local government.
According to the Ukrainian security source, such attacks are being systematically employed to diminish Russia's missile capabilities. The source also indicated that plans for conducting additional similar attacks on Russian military facilities are underway.
