Ukrainian Government Undergoes Major Cabinet Restructuring Amid Ongoing War
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has reportedly submitted his resignation on September 4, joining a wave of cabinet shake-ups initiated by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as the country marks 2.5 years since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion. The announcement, made by parliamentary speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, indicated that Kuleba's resignation would be deliberated in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament.
Just a day prior, Stefanchuk disclosed that other key officials, including Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Iryna Vereshchuk, had also stepped down from their positions. Zelenskiy highlighted the necessity for these changes, indicating a strategy to strengthen the government's effectiveness in responding to wartime challenges.
"There will be a number of personnel changes in the cabinet of ministers and the office of the president," Zelenskiy stated on September 3. In addition to Kuleba, other resignations on that day included Strategic Industries Minister Oleksandr Kamyshin, Justice Minister Denys Malyuska, and Environment Minister Ruslan Strilets.
