Unveiling the Future: The CUPRA Tavascan Electric SUV Takes Center Stage
Take the chance and be one of the first to test drive the new CUPRA Tavascan. In recent years, the number of new electric car models globally has risen significantly, with most car manufacturers now highlighting specifications like range, battery size, and eco-friendly goals. CUPRA, the youngest brand within the Volkswagen Group, is also making its mark, placing a strong emphasis on performance and design.
The Tavascan marks CUPRA's debut in the electric SUV market, following their earlier model, the CUPRA Born. As per Helena Sjöberg Tufvesson, the marketing manager at CUPRA Sweden, the Tavascan is poised to meet the demands of enthusiasts seeking an all-electric powertrain with an all-wheel-drive system and ample cabin and trunk space. "Its jaw-dropping design is bound to turn heads," she notes, highlighting how this SUV caters specifically to a new generation of car enthusiasts.
The CUPRA Tavascan is now available for testing in the Swedish market, built on Volkswagen's MEB platform—a shared foundation among the group’s popular electric models like the Volkswagen ID4 and Audi Q4 e-tron. Helena emphasizes the brand's unique position, stating, "We situate ourselves between volume and premium segments, offering an exciting alternative to traditional luxury car brands."
Power and Safety Combined The CUPRA Tavascan blends sporty aesthetics with formidable performance and high safety standards. It comes in two variants: a rear-wheel drive version with 286 horsepower, and a more powerful all-wheel drive VZ version boasting 340 horsepower. Both versions assure a thrilling driving experience, complemented by selectable adaptive chassis control, known as Sport DCC, and progressive steering that enhances handling.
On the range front, the rear-wheel drive model can travel up to an impressive 565 kilometers, while the all-wheel drive VZ can cover up to 518 kilometers, according to WLTP standards. With a battery capacity of 77 kilowatt-hours, Tavascan features an 11 kW AC charging capability, and it also supports fast charging—capable of charging from 0 to 100 kilometers in just seven minutes. "This fast charging ability provides drivers the convenience of quick energy refills on the go," adds Helena.
Well-Equipped for Modern Needs Standard features of the Tavascan are thoughtfully designed to meet modern expectations, including a rapid acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. Additionally, options for a tow bar and roof rack enhance its versatility. The SUV's trunk offers an impressive capacity of 540 liters, augmented by a foldable and splitable rear seat layout. The interior, crafted partly from recycled materials, reflects both luxury and environmental responsibility.
Safety isn't overlooked, with the Tavascan being equipped with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including the new Connected Travel Assist and a cutting-edge heads-up display with augmented reality (AR) aimed at boosting driver focus and enjoyment. Reinforcing its tech-savvy image, the Tavascan features a 15-inch infotainment display, a new HMI for operations, wireless FullLink functionality, and an advanced audio system comprising 12 speakers from Sennheiser.
