US and NATO Allies to Provide Ukraine with Air Defense Systems Amid Russian Aggression
At the NATO summit in Washington, President Joe Biden announced that the US, along with Germany, Romania, the Netherlands, and several other allies, will be sending air defense systems to Ukraine to help in its fight against Russian advances. The commitment includes sending at least four Patriot systems, with additional batteries and components from various countries such as Italy, Canada, Norway, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has emphasized the importance of air defense systems in protecting his country and has specifically requested more Patriot systems to deter Russian attacks. The recent influx of support comes as Russia continues its relentless bombardment of Ukraine, with tragic incidents like the attack on a children's hospital in Kyiv. Zelenskyy has called for decisive actions from the US and Europe to strengthen Ukrainian troops and has vowed to do everything possible to defeat Russia. The delivery of these air defense systems marks an important step in supporting Ukraine's defense capabilities amidst the ongoing conflict.
