Valdesoto Celebrates Exemplary Town Award with Royal Visit
This past Saturday, Valdesoto, a picturesque town in the Council of Siero, was honored with the Exemplary Town of Asturias 2025 award by the prestigious Princess of Asturias Foundation. The Royal Family, including King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor, and Infanta Sofía, graced the town with their presence to celebrate this significant achievement.
The Royal visit began around 11:30 AM, where they were warmly welcomed by enthusiastic townsfolk, local authorities, and members of the Principality's Government. Residents prepared a special theatrical representation at the prau of the Casona de Leceñes, a historic building dating back to the late 18th century, to honor their distinguished guests.
Following the performance, the Royal Family embarked on a tour of Valdesoto, which has consistently showcased its rich cultural heritage by nominating itself for the award for 21 consecutive years. The tour highlighted local traditions and key points of interest that embody the spirit of the town and its commitment to preserving ancestral customs passed down through generations.
This particular event holds special significance for Princess Leonor, as she is poised to take on a more prominent role in future Princess of Asturias Awards ceremonies. For the first time, she will deliver the sole speech during the ceremony, marking a departure from the tradition of King Felipe VI making remarks. This shift reflects her growing involvement in important state functions and public engagements.
