Valencia Police Rescue Woman and Children from Domestic Abuse After 20 Days of Captivity
On Friday, the GAMA group of the Valencia Local Police executed a successful rescue operation, liberating a woman and her two minor daughters who had been held captive in their home by the woman's husband for an agonizing 20 days. This alarming situation was brought to light when a witness affiliated with a social aid organization alerted the authorities to the ongoing abuse. It was reported that the woman and her daughters were not only confined to their home but were also subjected to continuous physical assaults by the husband over several months.
According to city council reports, the victim had previously reached out to an aid association for support, indicating her desperate need for help. Promptly responding to the distress signal, a GAMA patrol, alongside another support unit, arrived at the family’s residence. When the husband opened the door, the victim's silent plea for help was evident; she gestured from the back of the living room, signaling for the officers to enter and assist her.
Upon entering the home, the police managed to isolate the alleged aggressor in one of the rooms and conducted an interview with the victim, who was accompanied by her young daughters. Once they were assured of their privacy, she recounted harrowing details of the physical and sexual abuse she had endured, as well as the kidnapping that had become her day-to-day existence throughout the relationship.
Given the gravity of the situation, the GAMA patrol swiftly determined that it was unsafe for the woman and her daughters to remain in the apartment. They activated the resources of the 24-hour Women’s Center, ensuring that the family would receive the necessary support and protection.
The 38-year-old husband, accused of the abuse and kidnapping, has since been arrested and is now in the custody of the Judicial Authority. This incident sheds light on the critical importance of community awareness and intervention in cases of domestic violence, highlighting how swift action by witnesses and law enforcement can save lives.
