Valencian President Reaches Out to DANA Victim Associations Amid Calls for Inclusion in Investigative Committee

In a significant move to address the concerns of victims affected by the DANA (DANA 29 Octubre) disaster that struck last October, the president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, has initiated contact with three key victim associations. According to sources from these associations, Mazón's outreach aims to facilitate a meeting with their representatives. The groups involved include the Asociación Víctimes DANA 29 Octubre, the Associació Víctimes Mortals DANA 29O, and the Asociación de damnificados por la dana de LHorta Sud.

These associations have been vocal in their demands for representation, specifically calling for their inclusion in the investigative committee examining the DANA events, which is convened by Les Corts Valencianes. They contend that it is contradictory for the president to seek dialogue with them while simultaneously excluding them from a committee that serves as a crucial platform for addressing the needs and sentiments of the Valencian people.

The representatives from these associations had previously met with key political figures, including the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in Valencia, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as well as the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, in Brussels. These discussions highlight the associations' determination to ensure their voices are heard and that their experiences and losses are acknowledged within the larger context of governmental accountability and support.

As the victims continue to seek justice and reparation, the dialogue initiated by President Mazón may hold the potential for meaningful engagement. However, the question remains whether these efforts will translate into action that grants the victims the representation they are advocating for in the official discussions concerning the tragedy of DANA.
