Vandals Disrupt France's High-speed TGV Network Ahead of Paris Olympics
In a series of coordinated actions, vandals targeted France's high-speed TGV network, causing major disruption to some of the country's busiest rail lines just ahead of the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The state-owned railway operator, SNCF, reported that arsonists deliberately targeted installations along the lines connecting Paris with the west, north, and east regions, leading to severe disruptions in traffic over the weekend. The SNCF released a statement expressing their dismay, stating, 'Last night, the SNCF was victim to several acts of vandalism on the Atlantic, Northern, and Eastern high-speed lines, where fires were deliberately set to damage our installations.' Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra condemned the vandalism, describing it as 'completely appalling' and emphasizing that targeting the games was equivalent to targeting France itself.
