Volvo Launches Game-Changing EX60 Electric SUV with Class-Leading Range and Advanced Safety Features

Volvo Cars has taken a significant step toward a sustainable future with the launch of the new electric SUV, the EX60. This innovative model is built on the manufacturer's most advanced platform to date, specifically designed for fully electric vehicles, known as SPA3. With an impressive all-wheel drive range of up to 810 kilometers according to WLTP standards, the EX60 is now setting benchmarks in the electric vehicle market, aiming to rival traditional diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles. Håkan Samuelsson, CEO of Volvo Cars, expressed confidence in this new launch: "The fully electric EX60 changes the game when it comes to range, charging, and price. It represents a new beginning for Volvo Cars and our customers. With this car, we are removing all remaining barriers to switching to electric." One of the standout features of the EX60 is its low weight, made possible through an advanced megacasting technique. This method replaces many smaller parts with a single high-precision cast component, significantly reducing the vehicle's weight and enhancing its range. Additionally, the batteries are integrated into the car's structure, serving as a load-bearing component of the floor. This design change results in a lighter vehicle with improved energy efficiency and a lower center of gravity, contributing to better road performance. Charging capabilities are also impressive. The EX60 can add up to 340 kilometers of range in a mere 10 minutes thanks to its cutting-edge 800-volt technology. A full charge from 10 to 80 percent is achievable in about 19 minutes using a 400 kW fast charger, making it almost as convenient as refueling a traditional gas vehicle. Available in three variants, the EX60 caters to different needs and preferences. The base version, the EX60 P6, features rear-wheel drive, 374 horsepower, and a range of 620 kilometers. The next model, the P10 AWD, offers 510 horsepower and 660 kilometers of WLTP range. The top-of-the-line P12 AWD boasts an impressive 680 horsepower, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, and still manages to deliver a remarkable range of up to 810 kilometers. Technological innovations continue with the introduction of the world’s first multiadaptive seatbelt system, which enhances passenger safety in real-time by adjusting tension according to the specific characteristics of individual occupants. This breakthrough uses data from various sensors to provide tailored protection to front passengers during potential accidents, customizing the tightness based on factors like passenger weight and body shape. The interior of the EX60 is designed to maximize space for passengers and cargo. With a trunk capacity of 523 liters, which expands to 1647 liters with the rear seats folded, along with an additional 58 liters of front trunk space, the SUV is practical as well as stylish. Moreover, the vehicle can be equipped with a towing capacity of up to 2400 kilograms, making it versatile for various needs. In conclusion, the Volvo EX60 not only enhances the electric vehicle landscape with its class-leading range and charging capabilities, but it also establishes new safety standards with innovative features. With a promising blend of technology, design, and sustainability, the EX60 aims to set a new precedent for the future of driving. Related Sources: • Source 1 • Source 2
