Weather Alert: Dusty Skies and High Temperatures Sweep Across Spain
The high-altitude isolated depression named DANA has not only caused considerable instability in Spain but has also ushered in the arrival of dust across the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. This unusual combination has led to a phenomenon known as mud rain, prompting the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) to issue warnings regarding rain, storms, and elevated temperatures in nine provinces.
The regions affected by the storm and rainfall warnings include Burgos and Soria in Castilla y León, as well as Álava, Guipúzcoa, and Vizcaya in the Basque Country. Additionally, warnings for rain apply to the Ebro River area of La Rioja and the Iberian mountain range of the same province. In contrast, the high-temperature alerts encompass Lleida in Catalonia and Huesca and Zaragoza in Aragón.
AEMET has indicated that the end of this episode of erratic precipitation is approaching. The agency’s latest forecasts suggest a trend toward stabilization across the Peninsula. The low-pressure system responsible for the recent instability is expected to move northward, paving the way for high-pressure conditions to take hold.
By Friday, AEMET predicts that weather stabilization will be fully underway. However, it also notes that a front moving through the northwest could bring cloudy skies and light rain, particularly in Galicia and the Cantabrian region. This follows several days of unstable weather across much of Spain, necessitating caution concerning maximum temperatures.
Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise significantly. On Friday, maximum temperatures in the central peninsula will see a slight increase, while they will remain moderate in the southwest and relatively stable elsewhere. According to AEMET, temperatures are likely to surpass 34-36 degrees Celsius in the depressions of Andalusia, the northeastern peninsula, the southeastern quadrant, and parts of Mallorca’s interior.
Everyone is advised to stay informed and prepared as AEMET continues to monitor these weather conditions closely. For the latest updates and alerts, follow El Huffpost and stay connected through our mobile APP available on both Android and iOS.
