WiZink Center to Transform into Movistar Arena in 2025: A New Era for Madrid's Event Venue
The iconic WiZink Center in Madrid will be officially renamed Movistar Arena starting in 2025, following a new sponsorship deal reached between Telefónica and Impulsa Eventos e Instalaciones, the venue's management company. This change marks the end of a decade-long partnership with WiZink Bank, ushering in a strategic transition for the venue under a fresh initiative for the 2024-2028 period.
Upon receiving approval from the Community of Madrid, the multipurpose space located on Goya Street will adopt its new identity. Notably, the Movistar branding joins a lineup of similarly named venues across Latin America, such as those in Buenos Aires, Bogotá, and Santiago de Chile. Existing venues in London and Prague, operating under the O2 brand, further highlight the appeal and unified vision of these locations as major event hubs.
The revamped Movistar Arena boasts a maximum capacity of 17,400 spectators, promising to continue its legacy of hosting a wide variety of musical concerts and sporting events. It will serve as the home ground for Real Madrid and Movistar Estudiantes basketball teams, and will be the site for Premier Pádel Madrid.
Looking ahead to 2025, the arena is set to be bustling, with plans already in place for 220 events, including 120 concerts. Exciting performances are scheduled from notable artists such as Dani Martín, Joaquín Sabina, Dua Lipa, Leiva, Maluma, and Duki, featuring a mix of new residency formats and double shows.
Emilio Gayo, President of Telefónica España, expressed significant enthusiasm about the sponsorship. He stated that concluding the company's centenary year with this announcement is a source of great satisfaction. He emphasized that Movistar Arena will become a vital connection point between people and the realms of music and entertainment. The venue will also showcase Telefónica's commitment to technological and digital advancement.
As the countdown to 2025 begins, the Madrid community and music lovers alike are eagerly anticipating the transformation of one of the city's key cultural venues into the new Movistar Arena.
