Youth Summer Program 2025: Discounts Up to 90% for Young Travelers
The Spanish Council of Ministers has officially launched the Youth Summer Program for 2025, allocating a substantial budget of 120 million euros to support young travelers aged 18 to 30. This initiative aims to make travel more accessible for the youth, providing discounts of up to 90% on various forms of land transport. Government spokesperson Pilar Alegría confirmed the program's details during a press conference, noting the successful uptake of similar discounts in the previous year—52 million trips were recorded in 2024 alone.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will soon unveil a dedicated website where young travelers can register for the program. Participants will receive a unique code that enables them to purchase discounted tickets valid for travel from July 1 to September 30, 2025. The Minister, Óscar Puente, excitedly shared the launch news on social media, emphasizing that both Spanish citizens and foreigners legally residing in Spain can benefit from the program, specifically targeting those born between January 1, 1995, and December 31, 2007.
The discount structure for the 2025 program will closely mirror that of the prior year, where approximately 130 million euros were allocated. In 2024, young travelers enjoyed significant reductions for train, bus, and Interrail journeys, with discounts reaching up to 90% on certain modes of transport.
To access these discounts, participants must register via the Ministry’s website, providing their ID, NIE, or passport details. Once eligibility is confirmed, applicants will receive a personal and nontransferable code. This code is essential for securing Interrail passes, as well as discounted train and bus tickets through the respective operators' websites. It’s important for applicants to register at least 24 hours before their intended purchase to allow for the verification process.
Transport companies will begin selling these discounted tickets as they update their systems accordingly. The discounts will apply to various services, including conventional medium-distance railway and narrow gauge routes, with a 90% reduction on single and roundtrip tickets. Avant services will offer a 50% discount on ticket prices, while commercial or high-speed train services will provide a 50% discount, capped at 30 euros per ticket.
For regular bus services under state competition, young travelers can expect a generous 90% discount on single and roundtrip tickets. Moreover, a 50% discount will be available for the Global Flexible Interrail pass, which allows for 10 days of travel within a 2-month period through Renfe.
It’s also important to note that booking multiple round trips on the same day for the same origin-destination with the same railway or bus company is prohibited unless the previous trip has been completed or canceled.
This program represents a significant effort by the Spanish government to facilitate mobility and promote travel experiences among the younger generation, ensuring they have the opportunity to explore their country and beyond at a fraction of the usual cost. With its expansive discounts, the Youth Summer Program 2025 is set to encourage young Spaniards and residents to embark on new adventures while fostering a greater understanding of diverse cultures and landscapes.
