Zaragoza Firefighters Battle Blaze at RAEEL SA Recycling Facility

Firefighters in Zaragoza are actively working to contain a significant fire that erupted on Thursday at the RAEEL SA recycling company, located within the Zaragoza Recycling Technology Park. Efforts to extinguish the flames are expected to continue throughout the night. According to reports from the Zaragoza firefighters, who communicated with Europa Press, the facility was closed at the time of the outbreak, meaning there are currently no injuries reported.

Due to a partial collapse of the building, direct intervention inside is not possible, prompting teams to focus on controlling the fire's perimeter. This strategy aims to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby fields or warehouses. In relation to smoke, local police, Civil Guard, and firefighters are closely monitoring inhabited areas, particularly the rural neighborhoods of La Cartuja and Torrecilla. Fortunately, with the current wind conditions, authorities believe it is unlikely that the smoke will pose any problems.

In light of the situation, a contingency plan is being developed to address potential evacuation procedures for the Municipal Animal Protection Center (CMPA), which is situated relatively close to the fire. Decisions regarding evacuation will depend on the fire's progression, but preliminary contact has been established with shelters that could accommodate dogs and cats if necessary.
